Plantation Resort in Wayanad


The spice plantation in Wayanad is one of the major spice plantations in Kerala. Wayanad is the least populous district in Kerala and is known for its mist-laden mountains, lush forests and green paddy fields stretching up to the horizon. Coffee
Coffee is grown in independent plantations or as a mixed plantation with other spices, notably pepper vine. The coffee based farming system is a notable feature of Wayanad. Coffee in Wayanad (66,999 ha.) shares 33.65 percent of the total cropped area in the district and 78 percent of the coffee area in the state. There are mainly two varieties of coffee i.e. Coffee Arabica and Coffee Robusta. After the Rains produce an average of 2500 kg of coffee each year from around 6000 coffee plants.

Areca nut
Areca is a Malayan language word which means "cluster of nuts". It is generally believed to be native to Malaysia or Philippines where it is grown in many varieties. It is extensively used in Hindu religious rites of birth, marriage, and nuptial and is also offered to guests as a mark of hospitality. It is offered to gods in veneration in the form of tambula, which consists of one areca nut placed over two betel leaves. 950 areca nut trees can be found in the plantation of After the Rains resort. Around 4000 kgs of areca nut are produced in every year. 

Pepper
It is known as the King of Spices and is native to India.  It is one of the oldest and best spices in India. After the Rains Resort produces an average of 300kgs of pepper annually and most of the produce is used within the resort and the rest is sold in markets. It is an amazing medicine and helps in treating cough, cold, intestinal problems and even cancer.

Cocoa
Cocoa is the seed of the cocoa tree. The seed contains a lot of fat and is used to produce cocoa butter. Cocoa butter is then used to produce chocolate. It is also used for drinks and medicines. At After the Rains, the cocoa production of the plantation comes to an average of 100 kgs annually.  Powdered cocoa is used within the resort.

Fruit Trees
At the plantation, you can find trees of jackfruit, mangoes, avocado, rambutan, mangosteen and creepers of passion fruit.
