Muthanga Wild Life Sanctuary:

Located around 16 km away from Sulthan Bathery, the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, popularly known as Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary. The dense forest of Muthanga has rich populations of plants and animals. The moist deciduous forest of Muthanga is blessed with varieties of trees and other plants. You can sight here Maruthi, karimaruthi, rosewood, venteak, vengal etc. Go and get excited with the sight of wild animal like the elephant, tiger, panthers, jungle cats, civet cats, monkeys, wild dogs etc. The sanctuary is also blessed with its endless population of birds like peacocks, babblers, cuckoos, owls, woodpeckers, jungle fowls etc.

Although there is an opportunity to see many of these animals, the prime attraction is elephants. The jungle here has a significant population of them. Hence Muthanga was declared as a Project Elephant site.

Tholpetty Wild Life Sanctuary:

Situated at a thirteen-kilometre distance from Thirunelly is the renowned Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary Wayanad. Tholpetty Wayanad is on the road leading to Kodagu in Karnataka. However, Wayanad Tholpetty Wildlife sanctuary is situated on the lower end of Muthanga wildlife. Tholpetty is the second wildlife sanctuary in Wayanad and borders the Nagarhole sanctuary in Karnataka. Located in North Wayanad, Tholpetty offers good spotting of elephants, bison, langurs, deer and if you are lucky, the tiger.

The Tholpetty wildlife sanctuary makes for an ideal destination to visit for a family especially kids. The sight of interesting wild animals and rare species of birds are any days an excitement, not just for nature enthusiasts but even a regular visitor.

Tholpetty Wildlife sanctuary is a brilliant trekking spot where a lot can be explored.  The red deer and spotted deer along with peacocks and peahens during their courting season are a sight to watch.
