Pilgrim Tourism in Wayanad
Wayanad is famous for its adventure tourism, recreational tourism, and historical tourism. Other than tourism, Wayanad is also famous for being the pilgrim location. Thirunelly Temple
Thirunelli is Located in north Wayanad at the base of the Brahmagiri Hills on the Karnataka border, 34-km away from Mananthavady. It is an ancient temple Dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is a calm and serene place that attracts a large number of devotees annually. The only remaining attraction is the footsteps of Vishnu, Vishnupad. Its enthralling and scenic beauty once imbibed can never be erased from the mind. There is a river known as Papanashini which translates to 'the stream that washes away sins'. This river emanates from the heart of Brahmagiri and enchants all who view it.
Pallikunu Church
Pallikunu Church is established in 1908 by a French priest Fr. Jefreno. It is situated at Meenangadi about 14 km from Kalpetta. It is a famous pilgrim centre of north Kerala dedicated to the Lourdes Matha. An interesting aspect of this church is that it has several rituals and practices similar to those prevalent in Hindu temples.
Varembetta Mosque
Varembetta mosque is one of the oldest mosques in Wayanad. It is about 300 years old. It is situated about 15 km from Kalpetta. The annual festive celebration held there in the month of March, sees hundreds of pilgrimage devotees come there.
Seetha Lava Kusha Temple
Lava Kusa Seetha temple is a famous Pilgrim Centers for the tourist and Devotees. It is located Wayanad district in the Kerala state of India. Lava Kusa Seetha temple was constructed by Sri pazhassiraja in the 18th century. The temple dedicated main workship of goddess Seetha and the sub deities of her son Luva and kush.
Puliyar Mala Jain Temple
The Jain temple is located at the Puliyarmala which is 5 kilometres north of Kalpetta. It is also called the Anantnath Swami Temple. The temple is dedicated to Lord Anantanatha, the 14th Tirthankara (spiritual guru) of Jain faith. The temple is ornately decorated with granite carvings. The Dravidian style of architecture is what is followed in the building. The stupas of this temple are colourfully painted and they rise in the shape of a pyramid. The small steps that lead to the main shrine of the temple are covered with different Jain Idols of stone, brass and gold.
